The board has called for strict implementation of the High Court order passed on December 7, 2017, regulating and prohibiting the handling and disposal of non-biodegradable material in the state.

“As an amicus curiae appointed by High Court, we play our role in making our State of Jammu & Kashmir cleaner and greener. We are indebted and thankful to Hon'ble High Court's Division Bench headed by Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey for developing a strong environmental jurisprudence in the State.” said Nadeem Qadri, environment lawyer and Executive Director at Centre For Environmental Law.

With growing industrialisation and consumerism, generation of huge amount of waste/garbage has become a matter of concern for societies everywhere. While bio-degradable waste gets decayed, the same is not true in case of non-biodegradable waste material. In particular, the extravagant use of polythene in many of its forms is assuming alarming proportions in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
