Malaysia moves to save its tigers

November 5, 2009: Malaysia has announced ambitious plans to double its tiger population by 2020. The rare Malayan tiger is the victim of a diminishing prey base and flourishing medicinal trade that attributes healing powers to its body parts.

 

The newly formulated National Tiger Action Plan will effectively use the country’s armed forces to protect the 500 remaining wild tigers from poachers.
