Only an Axe away

Kalpana Sadashivan, narrates the story of a unique campaign to save the valley from destructive hands of development. The mention of Silent Valley still conjures up visions of a global campaign in the late 1970s to save a pristine Western Ghats forest, home to rare and endangered species. Today, the project is being revived under the Pathrakadavu Hydroelectric Project on the Kunthi at the fringes of the Park.

Nature lovers are concerned that the proposed dam will harm the pristine evergreen forests in the valley. This 40-minute film directed by P Baburaj and C Saratchandran, shares the anxieties of the people of Kerala about the future of the Silent Valley.
