In the green mansions of the Sahyadri, sightings of microfauna such as this praying mantis, so named for its folded-arms stance, as though in prayer, are not uncommon. These predatory insects usually ambush their prey, sitting perfectly still before lashing out at an incredible speed, trapping their unlucky quarries securely with their grasping fore-legs.
