SPECIAL MENTION, SANKAR MUTHIAH ANAND
Frogs are directly or indirectly dependent on aquatic habitats, such as wetlands, which are vital to amphibian breeding. This fungoid frog Hylarana malabarica photographed in the forests of Amboli, in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, underscores the urgent need for special plans to be drawn up for the management of amphibian micro-niches, even within larger forested landscapes. Frogs rely on the surrounding moisture to allow the dissolution and diffusion of oxygen through their skins and into their blood vessels.
