SPECIAL MENTION, VIVEK KALE
The plateau tops of the Sahyadri, known as sadas, remain deceptively barren and dry throughout the summer months but when the monsoon arrives, they erupt into a riot of colours. In Kaas, the display takes the form of a veritable carpet of yellow and green, plus the delicate pink of Law’s balsam Impatiens lawii blooms. The beauty of these fairy-tale landscapes is interspersed by the silver monsoon-gush of crystal waterfalls.
