ANAND PATIL – ‘More Than It can Chew’
‘More Than It can Chew’ This picture was taken at Islapur near Nanded, Maharashtra, and was, in the words of the photographer, “Quite distant, but a treat to watch!” During one of his visits to the region, this Bonelli’s Eagle, an inhabitant of open, wooded, often hilly country, descended in a flash to launch an attack on this chinkara fawn. Preyed upon by wolves, leopards and dholes, the young gazelle was a touch too large for the eagle, which usually focusses on mammals the size of an Indian hare. After three attempts, the eagle gave up and the spry fawn lived to see another day.
