Range: (Southern population) Found only in the southern (Malaysian) part of the Malay Peninsula.
Habitat: Moist evergreen habitats.
Description: Similar in appearance to the Indochinese tiger but different in its genetic makeup.
Population: 600 to 800, making it the third largest tiger population after the royal Bengal tiger and the Indochinese tiger.
Status: Endangered. The Malayan tiger is also under great pressure due to habitat destruction and poaching.
