Hoolock Gibbon by Sandeep Dhumal
This Hoolock gibbon Hoolock sps., photographed in the Hoolongapar Gibbon Sanctuary, Assam, is India’s only ape species. Found in the forests of the Northeast, it lives in small groups and feeds on fruit, flowers, leaves and shoots. It is under threat due to poaching and the disappearance of its canopy habitat. It is considered one of the most endangered primate species in the world.
