Death by Deforestation

Special Mention: Shailendra Yashwant, October 2009, Indonesia – Death by Deforestation: Each tree, by dry weight, is around 50 per cent carbon. Deforestation is believed to be responsible for just under 20 per cent of all the CO2 released into the atmosphere globally. Yet, we have no international law or monitoring agency to curb rampant logging. Images like this are testament to the global scale of deforestation. Unless we find a way to counter this, we have little hope of countering climate change.
