Scimitar Babbler by Kalyan Varma

A prolonged wet season spanning seven or eight months is responsible for Periyar’s profusion of insect life, which in turn supports a diversity of predators dominated by birds. The Indian Scimitar-babbler Pomatorhinus horsfieldii belongs to the ‘often-heard-rarely-seen’ bird brigade. Expert in hunting moth caterpillars, the Scimitar Babbler prefers bamboo thickets.
