Kaziranga Inheritance

Barasingha by Amano Samarpan

Kaziranga is also home to the world’s largest population of swamp deer Rucervus duvaucelii, most easily seen in the Baguri and Haldhibari blocks. The barasingha was once found all the way to the Sundarbans in West Bengal, but is now restricted to a few terai habitats in Uttar Pradesh’s West Kheri Forest Division, adjoining areas in Nepal, the Kanha National Park in Madhya Pradesh (C.d.branderi), plus a few isolated forests in North Bengal and Assam (C.d.ranjitsinghi).
