Kaziranga Inheritance

Asiatic Wild Buffalo by D.K. Bhaskar

The world’s largest populations of the Asiatic wild buffalo Bubalus arnee are to be found in Kaziranga. Bulls are normally solitary but a typical herd may comprise dominant male, females, juveniles and calves. Social groupings with cows leading the herd are also known. Herds seldom move far from a permanent source of water. Kaziranga is a mix of dense wooded areas and short grasses interspersed by wetlands.
