Frog by Saunak P. Pal
Come monsoon and the streams in the Western Ghats transform into a virtual frog battle ground for females, with males competing for a chance to mate and pass on their genes. However, males of the genus Micrixylus, literally, take their nuptial displays a step upwards – in addition to calling, they use their hind legs as flags to warn away competing males and to attract passing female frogs. If two males come uncomfortably close… they will ‘kick-box’ to settle courting rights.
