Brahminy Kite by Santosh Shaligram
That is one very effective Brahminy Kite Haliastur indus – not two of them! One of the most handsome birds of India’s coastal and inland waterways, these kites, like their city cousins, get much of their sustenance from scavenging. But they are proficient fish catchers as this image so dramatically reveals. Notice that while it may have struck with both talons, the fish is held by just one leg. Protecting wetlands, which are carbon vaults, is a key strategy to fight climate change. In the process, the biodiversity of wetlands automatically gets the protection it needs.
