Skittering Frog by Pritesh Nandvikar
With moist, semi-permeable skins, amphibians are totally dependent on the health of their environment for survival. Water quality, soil pH, temperature and humidity are key factors that are likely to undergo change when the climate wobbles out of control. Monitoring amphibians and their wetland habitats could give scientists an early warning of climate problems ahead. Biologists use congenital defects in frogs to judge and interpret the negative impact of climate change, ozone depletion and pesticide contamination in the environment.
