Lion-tailed Macaque by Kalyan Verma
Slow breeding rates, long gestation periods, large inter-birth intervals and the degradation of its Western Ghats habitat have pushed the lion-tailed macaque Macaca silenus to the edge of extinction. Forced into contact with humans, this macaque gorges on a jackfruit that some person planted. Such close proximity to humans spells danger for the primates from poaching and diseases and pesticides, to which they may be exposed.
