Short-nosed fruit Bat by Jayesh Joshi

A cavity amidst the hanging berries of a fishtail palm is being used as a day roost by five short-nosed fruit bats Cynopterus sphinx. By far the most common frugivorous bat in India, it is an important disperser of banana and guava seeds. Males construct a ‘tent’ from stems, which serves as a shelter for females and young pups during the breeding season.
