Malabar Pied Hornbill by Sachin Rai

Two male Malabar Pied Hornbills Anthracoceros coronatus lock bills in mid-air, part of a ritual that will eventually establish dominance of one over the other. Predominantly frugivorous, hornbills are important seed dispersers in their moist semi-evergreen or evergreen habitats. Though widely distributed, habitat fragmentation is the biggest threat to their existence across their range.
