The Black-winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus), an elegant and dainty hawk, is patchily distributed all over the Indian sub-continent. It feeds mainly on grasshoppers, crickets, lizards and mice which it locates while gliding over low-lying grasslands, cultivated fields or light forests.
