Orb-webs, such as that of the Araneus spiders show typical features in the arrangement of the main strands, spokes and spirals of silk. Often lovely, deceptively delicate, but always functional such silken traps give the orb-weaving spiders a clear advantage over insect prey which get entangled in their webs.
