Cub World

Special Mention: Anuroop Krishnan

Two six-month-old cubs play at a waterhole in Tadoba without a care in the world oblivious to the many cameras and jeeps around them. The photographer and other tourists kept their cameras aside and just watched them play. In Krishnan’s words: “When we saw these cubs, we thought to ourselves what fine tigers they’d make. It was a bitter-sweet moment as we reflected that we may never be able to observe such carefree cubs in our lifetime again as we saw them frolicking in the water. And truly enough, when I visited the park three months later, eager to see how they had grown, I was informed that three of the four cubs had died, and there was no sign of the mother and the other cub. So delicate is the thin strand of a tiger’s life!”
