Sanctuary Wildlife Photography Awards 2014
JOINT THIRD PRIZE: BALAJI LOGANATHAN
Large-billed Bullies: In the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve, a pair of Large-billed crows Corvus macrorhynchos send a Rose-ringed Parakeet Psittacula krameri to the forest floor. The corvids worked in sync, one haranguing the feisty parakeet while the other one went in for the kill. Corvids are considered the most intelligent of the birds and have a brain to body mass ratio that is only slightly lower than that of humans. The photographer, intent on sighting big cats, instead captured a different sort of hunt and a truly incredible natural history moment.
