Amphibian With A Difference
One of the most beautiful and unique members of the amphibian world, the Malabar torrent toad is unlike most toads. It is seen only near torrents in the hills of Western Ghats. It prefers to sit on mossy rocks in streams in evergreen forests and call. Unlike most frogs and toads, they’re active during the day. A nondescript black back with vivid patches of red and yellow on the belly characterises this toad. The exact function of this colouration is not yet known and probably is part of its defence mechanism.
