Sanctuary Wildlife Photography Awards 2016
Special Mention: Shashank Dalvi & Prasenjeet Yadav
Gem of the Ghats: With an interesting if not outright appealing appearance, Nyctibatrachus sanctipalustris or the sacred swamp wrinkled frog is as droll in name as in looks. Endemic to the fast-flowing streams of the Western Ghats, this amphibian was rediscovered by Sanctuary award winner S.D. Biju in 2011, after a 91-year absence from records! Photographers Shashank Dalvi and Prasenjeet Yadav, committed conservationists and biologists, chose this spot based on three years of field work in the area, and then waited for three days for the frog to show up and pose for the shot.
