River Clique: The gentle waves in the waters of the Chambal river seem to spout a hundred heads as silvery mullet fish of the Mugilidae family emerge in synchrony. In the National Chambal Sanctuary, at the point where tourists board boats to go gharial spotting, these little fish rule the shallows. Normally placid, the disturbance created by the boatsmen as crafts draw in and out sends them into occasional frenzies that look like this. This beautifully delicate image of a commonly ignored species is reminiscent of a watercolour painting.
