The Great Pied Hornbill Buceros bicornis, also known as the Great Indian Hornbill is the state bird of Arunachal Pradesh and Kerala. This majestic bird with its impressive size and a big yellow casque set atop its huge beak is a sight to behold. The great Hornbill is widely hunted by tribes in India, the beaks, casques and feathers have ornamental value while the flesh is believed to have medicinal value. This bird is classified as near threatened as per the IUCN red list.
