Hornbill Week: India’s Incredible Hornbills

Wreathed Hornbill By Kalyan Varma

Wreathed Hornbills Rhyticeros undulatus are generally large birds, mainly black with a white tail. While the males have a yellow coloured throat pouch, the female’s pouch is blue. This species gets its name from its distinctive corrugated bill. In northeast India they are most commonly seen in Pakke and Namdapha Tiger Reserve.
