Hornbill Week: India’s Incredible Hornbills

Malabar Pied Hornbill By Kalyan Varma

The Malabar Pied Hornbill Anthracoceros coronatusis very similar to Oriental Pied, only it has broader white outer tail feathers and white wing tips. The casque too is longer and black in colour. Due to sustained habitat loss, this species is now listed under the near threatened category in the IUCN Red List. It is a resident to Western Ghats, East India and Sri Lanka.
