Brooke International: India

The Brooke was founded in 1934 by Mrs. Dorothy Brooke, who raised funds to support old British warhorses working in poor conditions in the streets of Cairo. Today The Brooke is the UK’s leading overseas equine welfare charity and has grown into an international organization reaching over 500,000 working equine animals each year across countries like Egypt, Jordan, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kenya, Ethiopia, Israel and Guatemala.

The Brooke started working in India in 1990, focusing on Delhi, Hyderabad and Jaipur. The work has now grown to new areas of Central Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakashi and Nepal, and they hope to develop a larger regional presence over the coming five years.

The focus for the next two years will be on consolidating the existing projects and partnerships, and working to develop and support the staff and systems which have been introduced to support the Brooke’s organizational strategy.  Another key area of focus will be developing and implementing a systematic method for monitoring and quantifying progress towards the country programme objectives. Beyond the two-year point, Brooke India will develop plans for further programmatic expansion

The position of the CEO is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to be an active and effective member of the Senior Management team, both nationally and internationally, contributing to the overall governance, strategic direction and management of the Brooke.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support operations and administration of the Board and ensuring that the Board receives regular and appropriate performance reports on Brooke India in relation to achieving and implementing agreed strategic objectives.
  • Oversee strategic design, promotion, delivery and quality of programmes and services.
  • Recommend yearly budget for Board approval and effectively manage the charity’s resources within budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
  • Effectively manage the human resource functions of Brooke India, according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws, regulations and best practice.
  • Assure that Brooke India, its mission; programs and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to all relevant stakeholders, both internal and external.

Must Have:

  • At least 10 years of experience of which at least three should have been in senior management within a leading International/national development organisation.
  • Proven experience of leading successful change management programmes.
  • Well-developed skills in organizational management, finance, human resource management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective success in developing networks of stakeholders, skilled in communicating with a cross section through various platforms.

Preferable: Familiarity with veterinary services provision and or animal husbandry.

The post offers salary in the range of Rs. 20 lakhs per annum.

Welfare for Stray Dogs, Mumbai

The Welfare Of Stray Dogs (WSD) is an animal welfare organization carrying out the animal birth control programme of sterilizing and immunizing stray dogs in Mumbai since 1989. The objectives of this programme are to control the population of stray dogs and reduce human rabies deaths.

WSD is looking for the following personnel to work with us on a full time basis, on a modest salary.

Field Manager: whose responsibilities would be to ensure smooth functioning and enhancement of reach of the on-site first-aid programme. He/She would train and
co-ordinate volunteers on basic first-aid and himself attend to first-aid cases if needed. He would also monitor area coverage of the sterilization/mass immunization programmes. The person should be able to combine an innate love for animals with a practical approach to providing animal healthcare solutions through first aid. He should possess leadership qualities and the ability to work with and motivate a team. Basic knowledge of first aid and an understanding of the need for systems are desirable.

Manager- Education: Overall Responsibility for the effective functioning of the WSD-Education & Awareness Programme including training volunteers to conduct slide presentations to different target audiences, chart presentations in slums and rabies awareness drives in public places. We are looking for someone who is mature with a pleasing personality, good communication skills and the ability to interact with people from different walks of life. Knowledge of different languages (Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati) will be an added advantage.

Helpline Executive: Attend to distress and other calls received as per established systems and carry out administrative work at the WSD office. The person should be responsive, proactive and possess a fair amount of fluency in English, Hindi and Marathi. Knowledge of basic computer applications such as MS Word and Excel would also be an essential qualification.
