Satpuda Foundation
The Satpuda Foundation is engaged in defending the wilderness of the Central Indian highlands and aims to spread and strengthen the wildlife movement in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, where its work is concentrated.

Responsibilities:
The project will involves community conservation in villages around the Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The individual would be put up at Nagpur and will be expected to spend 15 to 20 days of the month in the field. He/ she will be expected to compile data from surrounding villages, implement sustainable development strategies to reduce biotic pressure by villages on the tiger reserves and write reports.

Eligibilty:
A Bachelors degree in Social Sciences/ Biology will be prefered. Graduates in other fields may also apply. Satpuda Foundation is looking for someone young and dynamic with a basic knowledge of wildlife conservation, management and the socio-economic conditions of tribal villages.

Renumeration:
Negotiable. From Rs. 4,000 to Rs.8,000 per month. Acomodation will be provided in the Forest Guest House (during field work). Travel costs will be incurred by Satpuda Foundation.

Duration:
The appointment will be for a year and may be extended based on the candidates performance.

Research Assistant for Council for Social Development Research Organisation and Moving Images-India

Program: Council for Social Development – Moving Images-India Project.

Job Description: The research assistant will be required to work on a research project on the socio-economic, cultural, political and ecological aspects of small villages inside Sariska Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan. The study aims to build up a baseline of information on the socio-economics, forest dependency and historical aspects of the village communities living inside the reserve, with special reference to their impending displacement from the Reserve. The study will culminate in a technical report, an information booklet and a documentary film on the issue of people living inside a Tiger Reserve.

Qualifications:
He/She should have a Bachelor's degree in one of the areas relevant to the project study. She/he should have good Hindi-speaking ability and a moderate amount of field experience and demonstrated commitment and interest in the area of environment is most important.
A basic level of computer-related and quantitative skills is
also required. She/he should be able to work independently in the field with minimal amount of supervision. He/she should be willing to live under sometimes difficult field conditions in villages of Sariska Tiger Reserve, for a period of six-eight months and later move to Delhi for data analysis and report-writing.

Monthly Renumeration:
A monthly stipend equivalent to JRF/SRF scales of UGC, as found applicable, will be paid for the duration of the study. In addition, a modest living allowance and working expenses will be paid while the person is based in Sariska, but not while in Delhi.

Centre for Herpetology / Madras Crocodile Bank Trust, Tamil Nadu

The Centre for Herpetology / Madras Crocodile Bank Trust, Tamil Nadu is looking for a Project Assistant for a project on the monitoring of sea turtles in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The work will primarily entail coordination of field camps in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, including enumeration of turtles, tagging of sea turtles (PIT tagging and metal tagging) collection of tissue samples and related field activities, and collection and maintenance of field data. The main field sites are Cuthbert Bay in the Andamans (Green turtles, olive ridleys, leatherbacks) and Galathea (Leatherbacks and ridleys), and other sites will also be monitored. Duties will also include coordination of workshops and other minor administrative functions.

Duration: October, 2003 – December, 2004

Qualifications: A masters degree, some field experience, and a willingness to visit and work in remote places.

Remuneration: up to Rs. 10,000 p.m, depending on qualification

Field biologist/ ecologist for Center for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation (Black Bear Rehabilitation Project)

Job Description:
Contractual full-time position for a field biologist / ecologist is available with Wildlife Trust of India at Seijosa, Pakke tiger reserve, Arunachal Pradesh, India. Advanced degree(s) and experience sought (see below).

Essential qualifications required:
Minimum qualifications are master’s degree in conservation biology/ wildlife sciences/ ecology/ zoology/ environmental sciences with two years professional biological experience in field conservation projects or a Doctorate in one of the biological sciences. Persons with experience working with bears and bear management will be preferred. Familiarity with modern ecological survey methods and the use of appropriate equipment including use of radio-telemetry. Ability to gather data, write comprehensive reports and present findings.

Additional required skills & capabilities: Ability to speak northeastern languages or interest and willingness to learn the languages will be an advantage. You should be able to work in very isolated conditions and be experienced in off-road driving. Use of computer software like Word, Excel, Power Point, and excellent written, communication and organization skills.

Responsibilities:
Developing and implementing research projects.
Collecting data on feeding, behavior and habitat utilization of black bears.
Conducting data analysis and interpretation; and planning of field studies.
Preparing planning documents and progress reports.
Formulating bear population and habitat management policy and strategy recommendations.
Monitoring of released black bears will be one of the appointee’s activities, along with collection of data on released bears in the study area.
Evaluating effectiveness of the bear rehabilitation program
Providing technical assistance to forest department and other agency personnel.
Interacting with the public, especially on matters pertaining to bears and bear management.

Salary & benefits:
Contract will initially be for six month on probation with the possibility of extension thereafter. Benefits include free on-site single accommodation. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications & field experience. Benefits include 30 paid holidays; 5 days of festival leave as per WTI rules per year.

Job Description:
Candidates will be required to act as part-time resource people to help the Van Rakshak Project (Wild Aid programme) with anti-poaching training sessions in their neighboring wildlife Protect Areas (National Parks / Sanctuaries).

The subjects of training shall be -
Laws related to protection of wildlife and their habitat.
Natural history
Field Crafts: patrolling techniques, record of field observation, maintenance of record, collection of evidence, crime scene search etc.
Crime investigation
Combat training (armed and/or unarmed)
First aid

Qualifications:
Candidates (lawyers, field biologists or naturalist with field experience, ex-army staff etc.) should be willing to devote time occasionally to coach forest guards with various aspects of wildlife / wildlife habitat conservation.

She/He should, depending upon the region /area, be fluent in local language/s.
Southern India - must know any two regional languages
Central India and other Hindi speaking states - Hindi and English
Eastern India - Bengali and/or Oriya
North-Eastern region: Any local language, Hindi and/or English
Western India: Marathi, Gujarati and Hindi

The selected candidate will first go through an orientation to evaluate knowledge and teaching ability. Once empanelled, the successful candidate will be entitled to a generous honorarium commensurate with experience apart from costs. The organization shall pay the actual travel expense (rail fare by AC III or bus fare) and appropriate honorarium on a per day basis. Lodging, boarding and food shall be taken care of at the training site (usually a Wildlife Sanctuary or National Park).

Two Contractual Postions at the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM)

Opportunities for Wildlife Habitat Connectivity between Kanha National Park and Pench National park in Madhya Pradesh, India

Post: Senior Research Fellow (WLS) (Temporary on contract Basis)

Qualifications: M.Sc. In Wildlife Sciences/Wildlife Biology/Ecology from a recognized University/Equivalence.
Candidates research experience in designing & conducting wildlife field surveys, statistical methods, MS Access, RS, GIS will be preferred. The candidate must be prepared for field work related travel in the project study area.

Emoluments: Rs. 9000 per Month consolidated with 15% HRA

Duration: One year, six months

Post: Senior Research Fellow (GIS)

Qualifications: M.Tech / M.Sc. in remote sensing / GIS / Geoinformatics from a recognized University/Equivalence. Proficiency in GIS, RS and GPS techniques, ARC/INFO GIS, ERDAS Imagine, GPS, RDBMS, SQL and map digitization is mandatory.
Candidates having knowledge of Visual Basic and having relevant work experience in development of geographic databases and digital image analysis techniques will be preferred.

Emoluments: Rs. 9000 per Month consolidated with 15% HRA

Duration: One year, six months
