Education Coordinator for Samrakshan Trust
Samrakshan is an organization that works towards promoting sustainable livelihoods of forest-dwelling communities. Since 1997, it has been invloved in research, documentation, lobbying, networking and direct field intervention with the various local communities.

Applications from are invited for the field-based post of Coordinator, Education with the Kuno Initiative of Samrakshan Trust in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh.

Eligibility:
The applicant
should have relevant training and/or field experience in the field of education. He/ she should have an ability to work in adverse physical conditions. Fluency in Hindi is a prerequisite and the candidate would also be expected to possess the ability and interact with a various group of people.

Recruitment and emoluments:
The selected candidate will be based at Samrakshan’s field office at Village Agraa, tehsil Vijaypur, District Sheopur, MP. Initial recruitment would be for a period of two months, which may subsequently be extended by mutual agreement.

Emoluments would be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, general suitability for the work, and existing remuneration scales in comparable job opportunities.

Job Profile: The applicant will work towards the establishment and coordination of an education and livelihood skill development centre for young tribal children.

Co-ordination of three existing primary schools of Samrakshan Trust.

Building local capacity and leadership, with a special focus on training and capacity building for the locally recruited teachers of our schools.

Developing networks with various agencies which can contribute to the education initiative.

Evolving and implementing site-specific environment education and other alternative education strategies in schools.

Education Coordinator for Samrakshan Project

Applications are invited from qualified professionals for Samrakshan's project in the Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh. The selected applicant will work with Samrakshan's field team towards:
i. Preparing village level micro plans with specific focus on soil and water conservation
ii. Implementation and subsequent follow up of these micro plans
iii. Building up local capacity and leadership with a special focus on soil and water conservation

Eligibility:
- The candidate should have relevant training and/or field experience in the discipline applied for.
· Emoluments would be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, general suitability for the work, and existing remuneration scales in comparable job opportunities.
· The candidate should possess the ability to work in very difficult physical conditions, and to deal with a wide variety of people and interest groups. Initial recruitment would be for a period of two months, which may subsequently be extended by mutual agreement.
- Very good knowledge of Hindi is essential.

The selected applicant will work with Samrakshan's field team towards:
- Co-ordination of 8 schools that Samrakshan is running to cater to over 500 Sahariya tribal children;
- Building up local capacity and leadership, with a special focus on training and capacity building for the locally recruited teachers that work in our schools’
- Developing networks with various agencies which can contribute to the education programme;
- Evolving and implementing site-specific environment education and other alternative education strategies with the local community.

Wildlife Trust of India, New Delhi

The Wildlife Trust of India is looking for a Programme Officer for the Rapid Action Project.

Educational qualifications:
Essential: Post-graduate degree in Wildlife Sciences / Environmental Sciences / Biological Sciences.
Desirable: Ph.D. in any of the above.

Experience:
At least one year experience in wildlife conservation after postgraduation.

Requisite skills: The candidate must be well-acquainted with India's forestry system, possess good writing skills (proposals and reports), have a working knowledge of accounts, should be willing to travel anywhere in India, and should be able to prepare a network for the execution and implementation of the project.

Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Environment and Development (CISED), Bangalore

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Environment and Development (CISED) seeks two core faculty in the focal areas of water resources management, energy policy, climate change, urban planning, and/or air/water pollution studies.

Qualifications: Candidates must be dynamic and highly motivated scholars, typically with a Ph.D., with a strong track record of academically rigorous but socially relevant research in one or more of the areas indicated above. They could be trained in any branch of either the natural/physical/engineering sciences or the social sciences, or both. But they must have a strong interest in interdisciplinary research and teaching on environmental issues in the South Asian context. Candidates also must be willing to engage in policy and action research.

Responsibilities:
Core faculty are expected to initiate long-term research programmes which would address burning issues arising in the quest for environmentally sound and socially just development in the South Asian context.
They are expected to execute these programmes by developing necessary collaborations within and outside CISED.
They are also expected to participate in the development of short- and long-term training/teaching programmes in environment and resource management.
Seed funds are available for initial programmatic support; however, faculty will eventually be expected to raise a significant fraction of their funding requirements themselves.
Core faculty are also expected to participate in all institution-building activities.

Appointments and emoluments: Appointments can be made at the level of Fellow (equivalent to Assistant Professor) or Senior Fellow (equivalent to Associate Professor). Appointments will be on a contractual basis, initially for a period of 3 years, followed by longer-term contracts. CISED’s package of emoluments is competitive with other academic institutions in India.

About CISED: CISED is a new initiative supported by the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) and the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bangalore. Its mission is to create an institutional space for conducting interdisciplinary research and training on problems at the environment-development interface in ways that ensure relevance for action and policy without sacrificing scientific rigour. Its activities are guided by an Advisory Committee of eminent scholars, activists, and policy-makers in the field of environment. CISED faculty participate in the ISEC Ph.D. programme.

CISED is located in the sylvan ISEC campus that is endowed with an excellent library, 24-hour internet connection, conference and workshop facilities, guest house and students’ hostel. CISED faculty are eligible for ISEC campus housing, subject to availability.
