Today was a very special day for me. I met with 80 pre-primary children from West Wind School, Mumbai. My message to them? Nature is your best friend and will look after you forever, but you must also look after Mother Nature and not hurt her in any way. We spoke about the tiger, about whale sharks, the oceans, the high Himalaya and how creatures that live in the sea really hate it when humans throw their poisons in their water. The children, I found, knew that nature is the air they breathe, the water they drink, the rain that falls on leaves... the butterflies that pollinate the plants. The teachers and parents of West Wind Nursery School said that their children would write and draw 'Save the Tiger' postcard messages -- and I promised that Sanctuary would have them delivered to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. These children, almost ALL children, are so, so connected to nature. Actually, so are we adults, but sadly, we seem to have forgotten what it is like to sit back, with humility, and contemplate the miraculous world we live in... a world we are trashing as though it were our enemy.
