Around 150 tribals, armed with bows, arrows, axes and spears were chased out of the Similipal Tiger Reserve's Nawana Range on 19th April. They were making an attempt for a traditional mass hunting exercise known as 'Akhand Shikar'.
Deputy Director DK Samal said that his department managed to foil the shikar spree by preventing the gang from establishing shikar camps in the reserve. He added that on 16th April, a larger gang of 300 poachers was prevented while making attempts to enter via Khadiapada, Dudhiani, Hatibadi and Tinahaja.
