Safeguard the Trees of Coimbatore-Mettupalayam Road

For the expansion of National Highways between Coimbatore and Mettupalayam, it has been decided by the government  to cut down around 800 trees along the road side. Representations from various NGOs failed to stop this anto environmental action of the government. Our honourable union Minister for Environment and Forests should intervene in this matter in a view to protect the trees. In coimbatore already many trees were cut down for the expansion in Avinasi Road in the name development and in the name of forthcoming Tamil Conference.

In between coimbatore and Mettupalayam(38 Km) buses are operated for every five minutes. But the railway department operates only a single service of Express train(Blue Mountain Express or Nilgiri Express) and a single service of Passanger train. To minimize the traffic in this road more train services shoud be introduced in between these towns.                                            -S.Balasubramanian
