National Green Tribunal On The Anvil: Jairam Ramesh
February 19, 2009: A bill to constitute a National Green Tribunal to redress environmental-related issues and grievances will be introduced in the next Parliament session, Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh today said.
Once passed, it would help NGOs, environmental activists and pollution control boards seek redressal of various environmental concerns, he told reporters here. Similarly, a bill to amend the Wildlife Act 1972 would also be brought in the next session, he said. On the Green Building Concept, he said all Corporations and Municipalities should take up the issues locally. Ramesh said his ministry's office building, to come up in Delhi in April at a cost of Rs 100 crore, would save 60 per cent energy in air conditioning costs as 0.2 MW energy of 1.2 MW required would be generated by solar cells.
