June 2010: Butterflies of India is a website compiled by the Indian Foundation for Butterflies and provides detailed information on India’s 25,000 odd butterfly species. The site is still being developed but already has a good amount of material up as well as some stunning images.

The content is well-presented and easy to understand and will tell butterfly aficionados everything they need to know about a species from its habitat, distribution and life stages to how to identify it. It also has a section that explains butterfly biology in detail and an upcoming classification and news page. The site also allows users to contribute their own data on butterflies – the information is reviewed by the site’s Butterfly Biology Team comprising experts in the field – after which it is uploaded. The site is well on its way to becoming a one-stop information website for anyone interested in learning about these beautiful winged creatures.
