Goa Youth Convention on Environment and Development July 19-20, 2011

Dear All,

We are writing to invite you to the *Goa Youth Convention on Environment and Development* to be held on *19th and 20th July 2011 *at the *Goa International Centre* in Dona Paula.

Goa’s youth have long played an active role in Goa’s environmental movement, though rarely allowed much involvement in influencing policy change. In order to strengthen and facilitate our youth involvement currently scattered across the state, this first of its kind convention has been proposed to create a platform for Goa’s youth to network, discuss and share their views and experiences relating to environment, conservation and sustainable development of the state.

The key thematic areas to be discussed include: urbanization, land-use, agriculture, coastal and marine conservation, solid waste management, biodiversity, education, tourism, mining, water & sanitation and energy. Attendees will be encouraged to form active working groups under each of these theme areas and brainstorm on finding workable solutions for a specific issue. The event will also include thematic focused group discussions and panel discussions with experts and policy makers.

The event will be organised by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) Goa, in association with the Goa Golden Jubilee Development Council and supported by the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Govt. of Goa and the Goa International Centre, Dona Paula.

Dignitaries who will be part of the event include Shri Aleixo Sequeira, the Hon. Minister for Environment, Govt. of Goa, and Prof. Madhav Gadgil, Chairman Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel and member Goa Golden Jubilee Development Council.

Should the proceedings of this convention become part of the Goa Golden Jubilee Development Council vision document being planned by the Govt. of Goa, it will mark the beginning of a new era with Goa’s youth playing a pivotal role in shaping the state’s policy. We hope for a diversified audience – students, researchers, activists, industrialists, entrepreneurs, architects, other professionals and anyone else interested in contributing ideas towards developing a better Goa.

We request your participation in the event and look forward to your contribution. Please confirm your participation/registration by sending an email or calling Mr. Sujeet Dongre, CEE (Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
