Getting Owners To Pay May Not Be An Easy Task
August 18, 2010: India’s environment minister Jairam Ramesh wants the shipping companies involved in the collision of two ships near Mumbai port that resulted in an oil spill to pay for the environmental damage.
A government law that came into effect last November could make the owners of the ships that collided on 7 August liable for the environmental and other damages resulting from it, but experts warn that it still won’t be easy getting them to pay. Read the full report here.
