Sanctuary Asia's Wild Maharashtra
SPECIAL MENTION, ASHOK CHAUDHARY
The Nannaj Sanctuary is home to Great Indian Bustards (GIB), the largest birds in their native range, typified by their longish necks and legs. Females are smaller than males and lack the gular pouch that is inflated when males display and put out their calls. Today, the GIB population in the state is the lowest and most unstable in the last three decades and we need to make special efforts in protected as well as non-protected areas to allow this bird to recover.
