Jackal by Arun Baweja
Most of the insides of this fawn have been consumed. Which is why the diminutive jackal Canis aureus, is able to lift it with ease. Jackals fill a vital ecological role in the Indian wilderness as canids that survive in varied habitats and on varied foods ranging from wild berries and rodents to deer and carrion. Nevertheless jackals are in trouble, largely because of persecution by those who kill them as vermin, poachers who sell their fur and also when domestic dogs pass on communicable diseases.
