Elephant by Jayanth Sharma
This incredible, powerful image of a silhouetted, charging elephant was taken on the banks of the river Kabini, between Nagarahole and Bandipur. Each year, in the dry season, a large number of elephants Elephas maximus congregate in the Kabini backwaters to feast on the fresh grass that emerges on its banks. Large contiguous forest stretches such as the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve are crucial to the survival of India’s largest land mammal.
