Sanctuary Wildlife Photography Awards 2013

SPECIAL MENTION: LALIT RAJORA – The Churbera tigress Panthera tigris of Bandhavgarh gave birth to these cubs, which gifted the photographer this fetching image as they peered curiously back at him as he sat atop a riding elephant. Their mother was away hunting. Rajora writes: “First one, then the other cub came out to look at us from atop a rock. What made the image for me was the fact that we were at eye level with these exquisite creatures.” As the cubs grow, tigresses are forced to spend more and more time hunting to feed their growing families and this is when the cubs are at their most vulnerable. At around two years they would be old enough to strike out on their own.
