The Sanjay Gandhi National Park Photography Contest 2015
Survival Of The Fittest
Special Mention: Dr. Sudhir Gaikwad
On a routine photography session in a boat across the Bhandup Pumping Station, one of the best but little-known birding hotspots in the city, the photographer spotted a raptor pounce on another bird, seemingly injured. As the group approached closer, they positively identified the Western Marsh-harrier Circus aeruginosus tearing apart a juvenile flamingo Phoeniconaias species, both winter visitors to this mangrove forest. Lesson for the day? Mother Nature allows survival only of the fittest.
