In the Guise: This is a vivid portrayal of a dangerous phenomenon that is taking a toll on the endangered Black-necked Crane population in its only breeding site in India, eastern Ladakh. Feral dogs often attack and kill native wildlife, a problem that has been increasing across the country. Though domestication has rendered dogs with smaller builds and weaker jaws compared to their wolf ancestors, it hasn’t impeded their hunting instincts. If anything, their closeness and adaptation to humans have bestowed them with an edge over wildlife, from an evolutionary point of view.
